Who is Turame?
We believe individuals and families have the God given talents and skills needed to realize their dreams, and we seek to partner with them in their journey by offering financial loans and services.
History of Turame
Turame Community Finance is a microfinance institution that launched its activities in Burundi officially in 2004 as a project of World Relief. While many NGOS and other international organizations distributed food items such a rice and beans to assist in alleviating poverty, World Relief sought to invest in the communities in Burundi through micro-credits. They developed and opened Turame Community Bank and sought to elevate the underserved with dignity and offer solutions that invested in more than just their economic health. The new microfinance offered small loans to groups of clients and shared the hope found in the Word of God.
In Janurary of 2007, Turame Community Bank detached from World Relief and became recognized as a second category microfinance bank. In agreement with all partners in the general assembly and the central bank, the name was changed from Turame Community Bank to Turame Community Finance in September 2008.
Currently, HOPE International, a non-governmental organization focused on investing in the dreams of entrepreneurs and sharing the hope of the Gospel, is the majority shareholder in Turame Community Finance. Turame has approximately 42,000 clients with 154 employees, and it is found in thirteen (13) provinces in Burundi; Bujumbura Marie, Bujumbura Rural, Gitega, Muramvya, Mwaro, Karusi, Ngozi, Kayanza, Bubanza, Rumonge, Cibitoke, Kirundo and Muyinga.
